Think about Auguste Comte’s view of sociology and answer the following questions: 1) What is different about the science of sociology compared to other sciences, according to Comte? 2) Comte’s Law of Three Stages thesis argues that human beings are integrated and connected by the dominant ideas of the time. In the past, ideas of theology and philosophy brought people together under a common purpose. The final, and current, stage of human thought is positive science for Comte. Apply Comte’s idea to today by giving some thoughtful examples of how science/technology does integrate society. If you disagree with Comte, provide some examples of how science/technology is disintegrating society.
